Context
Translating a manga chapter takes a chain of skills: cleaning the pages, reading the text in the bubbles, translating, placing the text back by hand, then proofreading everything. On a long series, every step takes time and the smallest inconsistency (a name translated two ways, a font that changes) shows right away.
Toonalys is a new project, started from a blank page: no old website to redo, a whole product to imagine.
Approach
The software splits production into independent steps: cleaning only, cleaning and OCR, or the full chapter. Every step produces an exportable deliverable, and you only pay for the work actually done.
Consistency is at the heart of the product: a self-enriching glossary keeps names, places, techniques and sound effects identical from one chapter to the next, and the first chapter sets the editorial profile (fonts, sizes, leading, outlines) used across the whole series.
Result
A complete web app, from the website that presents the product to the production tool itself. On the home page, you tap or hover a page to reveal its translation: the promise is clear in a second.
Toonalys is open as a pilot programme for publishers and studios.
